Over the last year or so as everyone knows oil and gas prices have fallen dramatically, why not domestic energy prices? This is the question raised this week on the news. This is particularly true of the “big six”. But my experience of domestic energy prices with one of the 30 odd small suppliers the price of natural gas I pay has dropped a bit but not electricity. This is very odd since the wholesale prices of energy have dropped if not to record levels certainly to the lowest levels for 2 years.
Its hard to think of any other reason for a lack of fall in domestic energy prices other than the big six are taking the opportunity to make excessive profits. The best thing to do is to shop around. Some of the domestic energy prices of the small suppliers are £300/year cheaper for both gas and electricity combined.
