{"id":1388,"date":"2013-01-18T12:06:06","date_gmt":"2013-01-18T11:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=1388"},"modified":"2013-06-28T19:28:14","modified_gmt":"2013-06-28T18:28:14","slug":"one-thing-we-have-learnt-this-week-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=1388","title":{"rendered":"One thing we have learnt this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Has American driving\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/climate\/2013\/01\/13\/1434771\/will-2013-continue-the-7-year-downward-trend-in-american-driving\/?mobile=nc\" target=\"_blank\">peaked?<\/a> The &#8220;Vehicle Miles Travelled&#8221; has fallen since a peak in 2005 and is at the same level as 1995.\u00a0 Over this period the US population has climbed so it cannot be put down to lower population growth. \u00a0 The number of licensed drivers in America is hardly increasing and the 16-34 age range are walking, cycling and using public transport more.\u00a0 Is this trend going to continue?\u00a0 Its too early to be sure.\u00a0 More fuel efficient cars may lead to a bounce back as we describe in our book.\u00a0 One thing is certain as I described in a post a few weeks ago the IEA is saying to be energy independent the US has to use less petrol.\u00a0 Is the same thing happening here?\u00a0 There are some signs it might <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-20526328\" target=\"_blank\">be?<\/a>, but car sales are increasing again (in the UK).\u00a0 The biggest winner in terms of sales is the very efficient small city car class.\u00a0 What do you think?<\/p>\n<p>Neil<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Has American driving\u00a0peaked?
