{"id":2228,"date":"2013-06-21T14:18:17","date_gmt":"2013-06-21T13:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=2228"},"modified":"2013-06-23T18:25:26","modified_gmt":"2013-06-23T17:25:26","slug":"one-thing-we-have-learnt-this-week-32","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=2228","title":{"rendered":"One thing we have learnt this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not sure about &#8220;we have learnt&#8221; should be the title this week of this regular post.\u00a0 Perhaps &#8220;I have learnt&#8221; would be a more appropriate title.<\/p>\n<p>I have been reminded of how much energy it takes to boil a small amount of water.\u00a0 A friends husband at our homegroup barbecue got us to demonstrate this by means of heating it by pedal power.\u00a0 He and some friends had built a home-made pedal powered heater.\u00a0 Bits of bike attached to dynamo with a heating element in an insulated box.\u00a0 It took 5 of us with about 2 minutes pedalling each to get the cup of water boiling.\u00a0 And yet we flick the switch on a kettle without thinking about it.\u00a0 A picture can be seen on our Facebook page (link on the RHS).<\/p>\n<p>Neil<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not sure about &#8220;we have learnt&#8221; should be the title this week of this regular post.\u00a0 Perhaps &#8220;I have learnt&#8221; would be a more appropriate title.
