\"sycamore<\/a>Autumn finished last week, its one of my favourite seasons.\u00a0 I like the change in the colour of the leaves and more recently I have found I like the shortening days.\u00a0Autumn\u00a0 is a time to curl up round the wood-burner with some lapsang tea and chocolate.\u00a0 \u00a0Autumn\u00a0 also makes you realise that one more year is drawing to an end and with the leaves falling the cycle of life is going on.\"002\"<\/p>\n

A search on my Bible software only found only three direct references to autumn, the best of which says;<\/p>\n

“They do not say in their hearts, \u2018Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.<\/em>” Jeremiah 5v24<\/p>\n

Another verse from Gen 8v22 clearly shows the concept of seasons and Autumn is implied;<\/p>\n

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

Clearly looking at both verses the seasons are seen as reminding us of God’s providence for us which is I suppose what I was trying to express above.\u00a0 And even in the ugliest urban environment you can sense something of the wonders of God’s creation in a changed leaf.<\/p>\n

\"2014-09-20<\/a>However, there are other things that Autumn makes me think of.\u00a0 Within the context of energy insecurity, food insecurity, climate change and economic insecurity I start to think about my energy use and whether there are any energy efficiency measures I can take.\u00a0 Are there any additional areas of insulation I could install?\u00a0 What about my electricity use, what is the energy efficient bulb situation looking like?\u00a0 I also decide what I am going to grow in the food line next year as well as harvesting the last of the winter vegetables and turning apples into cider or juice and fruit into jam.\u00a0 Increasingly\u00a0Autumn makes me think about the homeless and those who struggle to find enough money to pay their energy and food bills.\u00a0 We face a whole range of interrelated issues going forward, there is something about the earlier colder nights I find comforting, but at the same time which takes me out of my comfort zone.<\/p>\n
