\"carbon<\/a>The Peru climate talks have seemed to have been going well, I’ve been reading encouraging reports.\u00a0 But with hours to go the news is now pessimistic with very little agreement reached.\u00a0 Apparently all the Peru climate talks have managed to agree on is one paragraph<\/a> (so far) and this seems to be fairly anodyne stuff about “intensifying engagement” in the years up to 2020.<\/p>\n

The Peru climate talks started with high hopes due to the agreement between the US and China on emissions a few weeks ago, although you could be very cynical at this point and say both countries in doing were trying to get themselves off the hook at Lima.\u00a0 Even 48 hours ago I had a “clickavist” email which said agreement on a 100% “clean energy” future was in prospect.<\/p>\n

We really do need to get on with having been talking about it since 1992.\u00a0 All the time the carbon in the atmosphere is rising and development agencies say the effects of climate change on the worlds poorest are becoming more apparent.\u00a0 Even developed countries are seeing the effects of crazy weather with floods, hurricanes etc, and there has never been a better time to go for it with renewable energy costs plunging.\u00a0 The Catholic Bishops have called for radical action<\/a> on climate change.\u00a0 All Christians should be praying for these talks success.<\/p>\n
