du climat part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our &#8220;official&#8221; role as pelerins started at Newhaven ferry port on the 24th of November.\u00a0 The weather was not good and the crossing was very rough and I was slightly sick on the ferry.\u00a0\u00a0 Nevertheless after the previous days cycle a rest day was needed.\u00a0 There was only a short cycle to the hotel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-24-08.20.42.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6397\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-24-08.20.42-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2015-11-24 08.20.42\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 25th, in the rain heading for the <a href=\"http:\/\/avenuevertelondonparis.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Avenue Verte<\/a>.\u00a0 This is an official cycle route to Paris.\u00a0 The path which starts by following an old railway path from near Dieppe is tarmacked and gentle in gradient.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Day-2-006-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Day-2-006-small-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Day 2 006 small\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Day-2-006-small-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Day-2-006-small.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Normandy is famous for its apples.\u00a0 We passed vast numbers of small orchards many trees still having apples on them.\u00a0 The hedgerows had vast numbers of sloes in them.\u00a0 The French seem to ignore them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-25-11.22.09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-25-11.22.09-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2015-11-25 11.22.09\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" only puncture repair just off the route.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-25-10.42.02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6402 size-medium\" title=\"Caroline repairs her puncture (sucessfully).\" 12:30 I was wilting.\u00a0 The rain kept coming and going.\u00a0 For lunch we found a small cafe.\u00a0 Madam could not have been more welcoming.\u00a0 We had a great lunch of chips and omelette washed down with local cider and dried off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-25-14.09.04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6403 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-25-14.09.04-e1449525466471-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"2015-11-25 14.09.04\" very differently to day 1.\u00a0 The weather was cold, clear and frosty.\u00a0 This made cycling difficult.\u00a0 The path was icy and four peoples&#8217; brakes froze.\u00a0 Added to this a mistake in our hotel bookings meant we had to potentially cycle 65 miles having cycled 50 the day before.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-08.50.45.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-08.50.45-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2015-11-26 08.50.45\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-08.50.45-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-08.50.45-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>It soon warmed up and despite a slow start we had a wonderful days cycling to Cergy through beautiful rolling countryside.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-12.44.22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6406\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-12.44.22-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2015-11-26 12.44.22\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-12.44.22-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-12.44.22-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>At Cergy (a 50 mile mark) we had to decide whether to stop and take the train and come back the next day.\u00a0 We carried on.\u00a0 In Cergy we saw our first memorials to the recent fallen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-15.40.58.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6408\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-15.40.58-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2015-11-26 15.40.58\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-15.40.58-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-15.40.58-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>At this point we were near Paris and the Avenue Verte started to go a bit crazy.\u00a0 The route took us down twists and turns past schools with children coming out along old railway lines (not well surfaced), through a huge forest, by the Seine, through a posh part of Paris and onto the suburban streets of Paris.\u00a0 Things started to get scary.\u00a0 The traffic was awful.\u00a0 At one point we cycled down a quiet dark alley (a relief).\u00a0 However three cannabis smoking youths debated whether to mug us.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-16.47.40.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-16.47.40-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2015-11-26 16.47.40\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-16.47.40-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/2015-11-26-16.47.40-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>It was with some relief we reached our hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Day 3 was supposedly an easy ride into Paris with a very short distance of 15 miles or so.\u00a0\u00a0 Unfortunately the Avenue Verte was by now just very crazy and very scary (called a family section!).\u00a0 It zigzagged around and various sections were closed.\u00a0 We were looking for a brunch.\u00a0 Again we found a caf\u00e9 with another wonderful madam who could not have made us more welcoming.\u00a0 At the pilgrims event we were heading for had to present a song.\u00a0 We wrote and practised this in the caf\u00e9.\u00a0 At this point group of people came in asked what we were up to.\u00a0 They told us they had also come from Bayonne for the COP and that a protest was planned for Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the cycle (Avenue Verte intermediate section!) was a nightmare of traffic, other cyclists and pedestrians who did not like us on the shared sections and it was with some relief we arrived at Notre Dame.\u00a0 After a photoshoot it only remained to take out bikes to Gare Du Nord to leave with Eurostar.\u00a0 This final day was a 6 hour ride.<\/p>\n<p>Neil<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our &#8220;official&#8221;
