{"id":7292,"date":"2016-11-02T17:33:45","date_gmt":"2016-11-02T16:33:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=7292"},"modified":"2016-11-02T17:33:45","modified_gmt":"2016-11-02T16:33:45","slug":"global-carbon-intensity-falls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=7292","title":{"rendered":"Global carbon intensity falls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/800px-Shelby_Farms_Solar_Farm_Memphis_TN_2013-02-02_008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6478\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/800px-Shelby_Farms_Solar_Farm_Memphis_TN_2013-02-02_008-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"800px-Shelby_Farms_Solar_Farm_Memphis_TN_2013-02-02_008\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/800px-Shelby_Farms_Solar_Farm_Memphis_TN_2013-02-02_008-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/800px-Shelby_Farms_Solar_Farm_Memphis_TN_2013-02-02_008.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Some good news as global carbon intensity falls.\u00a0 Carbon intensity is falling due to the fall in coal power worldwide.\u00a0 Carbon intensity (or the carbon emissions per unit of gross domestic product) fell in 2015 by 2.8%.\u00a0 This may not sound like much but is more than double the rate that carbon intensity between 2000 and 2014.\u00a0 This is regarded as a step change and is very encouraging when it comes to climate change.\u00a0 When we wrote our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookdepository.com\/No-Oil-Lamp-Andy-Mellen\/9780232529449\" target=\"_blank\">book<\/a> we talked a lot about peak coal which looked relatively imminent (coal reserves looked very overstated).\u00a0 Coal use looked if not if unstoppable then certainly embedded in the global economy.\u00a0 Its really only over the last couple of years that people have turned against coal.\u00a0 The main reason that carbon intensity is falling is that Chinese use of coal is plunging.\u00a0 Remember every time climate change was discussed we were told not to bother doing anything since the Chinese were opening a new coal fired plant every week?
