{"id":7750,"date":"2017-10-06T20:42:38","date_gmt":"2017-10-06T19:42:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=7750"},"modified":"2017-10-06T20:42:38","modified_gmt":"2017-10-06T19:42:38","slug":"one-thing-learnt-week-solar-power-stormin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=7750","title":{"rendered":"One thing we have learnt this week- solar power stormin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/954838_204501379701698_1765426126_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4656\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/954838_204501379701698_1765426126_n-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"954838_204501379701698_1765426126_n\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/954838_204501379701698_1765426126_n-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/954838_204501379701698_1765426126_n.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Solar power is stormin.\u00a0 So say\u00a0 the international energy agency this week.\u00a0 Its now the fastest growing energy source.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Its growth will be the fastest of any energy source up until 2022.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Recent growth of solar power has been faster than that of coal (even in the US).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>China is the worlds largest market.\u00a0 But India is set to double its capacity over the next 5 years overtaking the EU.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On price it and other renewables are comparable to conventional forms of generation but could soon be cheaper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Growth of solar power will be twice as fast as gas and coal combined over the next 5 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The IEA warn that integrating renewables will be a challenge and requires careful management and storage such as batteries.\u00a0 Soon you will be able to get paid for using your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2017\/oct\/02\/electric-car-battery-savings-nissan-leaf-ovo\" target=\"_blank\">car as a grid battery<\/a> it was announced this week.\u00a0 (The two companies may have found a way out of the drive\/sell power to the grid conundrum).\u00a0 So it looks like the energy storage issue is on its way out.<\/p>\n<p>They also point out that even if solar power is competitive that people may not invest in it.\u00a0 It depends on a range of factors.<\/p>\n<p>However it increasingly looks like the future is solar and there is little anyone that doesn&#8217;t like that can do about it.<\/p>\n<p>Neil<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Solar power is stormin.\u00a0 So say\u00a0 the international energy agency this week.\u00a0 Its now the fastest growing energy source.
