{"id":7852,"date":"2017-12-13T21:34:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T20:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=7852"},"modified":"2017-12-13T21:34:00","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T20:34:00","slug":"electric-revolution-9-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/?p=7852","title":{"rendered":"Electric revolution 9 years on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/EV-sales1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7856\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/EV-sales1-300x241.jpg\" alt=\"EV sales\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/EV-sales1-300x241.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theoillamp.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/EV-sales1.jpg 497w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Electric revolution 9 years on.\u00a0 About 9 years ago I went to a Scottish parliament renewable energy group meeting on electric vehicles.\u00a0\u00a0 This was based around a report that had just come out on future UK sales.\u00a0 Yesterday we found this in a sort out.\u00a0 Its very interesting to look back at what has happened in the last 9 years with the benefit of hindsight.<\/p>\n<p>First a few general points.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diesels were seen as a good idea in 2009.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The oil price was much higher in 2009.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The scenarios are based on a number of criteria and the report gives a heap of these.\u00a0 However sales of EV&#8217;s taking hybrids and pure electric vehicles are way behind where they were forecast in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>This is not down to EV&#8217;s.\u00a0 Sales seem to be ahead of where they are forecast.\u00a0 Its a bit difficult to read the point on the graph in their report for 2018 but total sales were forecast to be 261,000 in 2o30.\u00a0 Sales were over 10,000 last year and have been even better this year so far.<\/p>\n<p>The report has contradictory things to say on the oil price effect but this has been shown to have little effect on sales of EV&#8217;s recently.\u00a0 What was forecast was the price of batteries would have a huge effect.\u00a0 They did not make a forecast price as such due to the variability in the estimates but did say that \u00a3100\/kWh from 2012 would have a huge effect on sales.
