\"meters\"<\/a>The smart meter saga continues.\u00a0 I had a series of emails over the last few weeks from my energy supplier offering me a smart meter.\u00a0 They had an attempt at this early this year I think it was, but the whole thing fell through since the smart meter was incompatible with my PV systems.\u00a0 I believe then I was being offered a first generation smart meter.\u00a0 This time I was being offered a second generation meter.\u00a0 So I hoped things had changed.<\/p>\n

The installation partner made several attempts at phoning me but did not leave a message. This in of itself made me suspicious of a scam.\u00a0 I was I’m afraid a bit short with him on the phone at first when he phoned last night.\u00a0 It seems however he was genuine.\u00a0 The conversation was brief.\u00a0 Basically as I understand it the second generation smart meters that my (small supplier) will provide are not compatible with PV systems although there are other suppliers who will offer compatible ones.\u00a0 (The people on the sustainability forum I signed up say that one or two of them have compatible smart meters.)\u00a0 Since I don’t want to switch suppliers for social reasons, this leaves me stuck.<\/p>\n

The UK government were said to be prioritising PV systems to get fitted with smart meters.\u00a0 They have taken away our export tariff so any of our power that goes to the grid is free for the energy companies (again some suppliers do give you money – shop around) and all along very few meters work with PV systems.\u00a0 You really couldn’t make this up.\u00a0 The idea is such a great one and necessary to know what’s going on the grid in real time.\u00a0 But the whole thing seems an increasing mess.\u00a0 The smart meter saga continues.<\/p>\n
